How to Create an Abstract Vector Design in Illustrator

A great looking abstract design can be created from the simplest of shapes. Let’s take a look at compiling various geometric shapes and objects to form a dynamic composition in Illustrator, then polishing it all up with some transparency effects to create a trendy vector illustration.

Start work sketching out a rough plan for the design, taking into consideration the composition and general style of the illustration.

Open up Adobe Illustrator and create a new document. Choose a generic size such as A4, and set the Color Mode to RGB for a choice of nice, vibrant colours.

Draw a 210×297mm rectangle onto the Artboard, align it centrally then add a soft grey to white radial gradient. This subtle addition gives a little depth to the design, rather than a boring flat white background.

Pick out a colour scheme of your choice. Here I’ve used an ice-cream inspired mix of baby blues, pinks and a couple of complementing greys. Draw a square at 7×7mm, copy (CMD+C) and paste in place (CMD+F). Then, press the ENTER key to Move the square a set distance horizontally, enter 7mm into the options.
Tip: Use CMD+D after pasting a new object to repeat the last transform command.

With all the coloured squares selected, click the New Brush icon in the Brushes palette. Select New Art Brush from the list.

In the options panel, ensure the direction of the brush is correct. Click the small arrow buttons to alter the orientation of the brush flow.

With the Pen Tool, draw a smooth flowing line spanning from the bottom left corner to the upper third of the document.

With the path selected, click the recently created brush in the Brushes Palette to give a cool stripe effect.

Go to Object > Expand Appearance to convert the path to a shape, then right click and Ungroup the objects.

Rather than have all the coloured stripes end abruptly, we want to tweak them to different lengths. Draw a temporary shape that crops off one of the stripes. With the shape and stripe selected choose the Subtract from Shape Area option in the Pathfinder.

Repeat this process with the remaining stripes at different positions, giving varied lengths to the lines.

Add some depth to the stripes by changing the flat colour to a gradient. Add a couple of extra swatches that add lighter and darker tones. It’s handy to keep a copy of the original swatches to one side to allow quick and easy colour picking.

Begin to add some secondary elements to the design, such as a bunch of grey circles. Draw each shape at a different size to fill out the empty space.

Overlap this area with another collection of circles, this time choose a different colour from the palette. Add a subtle gradient to give some depth to these new shapes.

Spice up the design with a touch of transparency. Draw a couple of new circles using the pink and blue colours, then change their blending mode to Overlay to react with the colours underneath, giving a vibrant theme to the design.

With circles being a prominent theme in the design, a set of halftone style elements would fit in well. Download a copy of the Vector Halftones from Think Design.

Add a few objects to fill out the space either side of the main flowing lines. Use the Overlay blending mode, or simply reduce the opacity to tone down the elements.

A variation of the circular shapes is a circle with a stroke, giving a ring shape that still fits in with the overall theme. Continue drawing lots of tiny shapes that give plenty of detail to the design.

Draw a separate circle elsewhere on the Artboard. Use the Direct Selection Tool to select two of the points. Hit delete to crop the circle down to a quarter.

Add a thick stroke to the line, the idea is to match the width of the main flowing lines, so a little trial and error is in order to match them exactly.

Position the new curved line accurately on the end of the blue stripe.

Overlap some large circle elements using the Overlay blending mode to break up the flow of the lines slightly.

Continue adding lots of little elements to the design. The key is to place the objects so that they span outwards from the central flowing lines.

Also place objects so that they interact with each other, which helps give variety to the shapes.

Spice up the overall background with some very large, faint circles.

The vector design is just about complete. The clean lines of vector work always looks pretty cool, but I always enjoy roughing up my designs a little in Photoshop to add some interesting texture and detail.

Copy the whole illustration, then open up Adobe Photoshop. Create a new layer in proportion to the design.

Paste in the vector elements and scale to the document boundaries. Being vector graphics they can be scaled to any size until they are rendered as pixels.

Head over to SXC to find a nice canvas texture. Copy the design into Photoshop and desaturate to remove the original colour cast.

Paste and scale the texture into place in the main document. Set the blending mode to Multiply and drop the opacity down to suit.

Duplicate the vector artwork layer then go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise. Choose a low setting that just adds some grainy detail to the colours. Change the blending mode to Multiply and drop the opacity right down.

The illustration now has a nice grainy feel to it that contrasts against the clean and crisp line of the vector graphics.

Make any last tweaks such as a touch of Curves adjustment to bring out the darks and lights for more contrast.

The abstract vector illustration is now complete. The great thing is this type of work fits right into any type of design for print and web, or could be left as a design showcased on its own.

Disco Ball

1. Create the disco ball texture

First, we need to turn on the grid and enable snapping. Go View>Show Grid and View>Snap to Grid. With the Rectangle Tool draw a grey square with a 1pixel white stroke. You realise it will snap perfectly to the grid while drawing. Using the Selection Tool, select the grey square and hold Alt/Option as you drag to the side. This will duplicate a new square.

Press Ctrl/Command+D to duplicate a row of 20 squares. Select the whole row of squares. Hold Alt/Option and drag below to duplicate a new row of squares. Repeat this by pressing Ctrl/Command+D. Do this until you get a 20 by 20 rows of squares.

With the Selection Tool, select a square. Hold Shift and randomly select a number of different squares and fill it with a shade of teal color. Repeat the steps until you have a range of 5 different shades all spread out. Select all the squares and duplicate by holding Alt/Option and drag it to the right side. Now open your Symbols Palette by going to Window>Symbol. Create a new symbol by dragging all the square into it. And we are done with our texture.

2. Create a 3D sphere
Now draw a circle with the Circle Tool. Hold Shift as you drag to create a perfect circle. Next, draw a rectangle that overlaps the circle in the middle. Select both shapes and open up your Pathfinder Palette. Hold Alt/Option and click Subtract from shape area. This will create a semi-circle.

With the semi-circle still selected, go Effect>3D>Revolve. Choose Map Art and select the texture we created under Symbol. Click Scale to Fit to fill up the whole sphere. Press Ok to confirm.

Under 3D Revolve Options, select No Shading for Surface and turn the Preview option on. Spin the cube to create the angle of the disco ball you want. Click Ok to confirm. We are done with our disco ball.

3. Add sparkles and glow

Draw a circle and fill it with Radial Gradient. Open up your Transparency Palette and set the Normal to Screen. This will create a glow on the disco ball.

We will need to add in more sparkles. Select the Star Tool, click and drag to create a basic star. Without releasing your mouse, press Arrow Up key to increase the number of points. Hold Ctrl/Command and drag to adjust the radius until you get the shape below. Next, we draw a Circle and fill up with a Radial Gradient as shown below. Align both in the center and set them to Screen under Transparency Palette. Select both and duplicate a few with different sizes to add sparkles to the disco ball.

4. Disco Ball Reflections
Let’s begin to do the disco reflection. Create a black solid circle. Select it and press Ctrl/Command+C to copy it. Paste it to the front by pressing Ctrl/Command+F to paste in front. Hold Shift and grab to corners to resize it smaller. Fill it with white after that. Select the Blend Tool and click the white circle once then hold Alt/Option and click the black circle. The Blend Options will pop up. Set a value of 6 steps and choose Specified Steps for it. Expand it by going to Object>Expand to break them into individual circles.

Duplicate a few of the reflections and spread them around. Select all the reflections and group them by pressing Ctrl/Command+G and go Effect>Warp>Fisheye. Play around with the options until you find something you like. Go Object>Expand Appearances to expand the warp after that.

Next we create a new rectangle above the reflections. Give it a Radial Gradient from teal to black color. With the Gradient Tool we can click and drag in the gradient to create the gradient below. Open up Transparency Palette and set it to Multiply.

Finally we will create a faint glow for the disco cube. Draw a circle and fill it with Radial Gradient. Go to the Layers Palette and move it behind the disco ball and your done!

Here’s the final disco ball. Hope this tutorial has helped you have a better understanding of using the Map Art in 3D Revolve.

Bonus Tip: We can further make changes to the disco ball by going to Window>Appearance and double click 3D Revolve (Mapped).

Broken Glass Effect

This great broken glass effect can be used for creating effective text effects for your websites or logos. The broken glass effect is relatively simple to create. Throughout this tutorial, I will teach you the skills needed to create this cool effect in Adobe Illustrator.

Preparing the text

The first step is to get a strong headline font – the typeface that you will see in a newspaper or comic book. I went for the font “Bebas” in this example, which can be downloaded for free here. Now type out your text, preferably in two separate text boxes, positioned beneath each other. I find it helps to decrease the tracking (the distance between characters) to create a more compact logo. (This setting can be found under the Character toolbox). I decreased the tracking to -50, shown below. This will help the broken glass effect become more prominent.

To create a bolder and more comical effect, try selecting individual characters and modifying their font size, as I did shown below.

Creating the broken glass look

Before you can start applying path effects to the text, you have to convert it to an object. You can do this by selecting the text and clicking Object > Expand. Once you do this you will no longer be able to change the text or font. Now you can start cutting up the text into pieces. Create a new layer and start drawing triangles with the pen tool where you would like the glass fractures to be, as shown below.

Now, select a triangle shape and click on Object > Path > Divide Objects Below. Do this for every triangle segment. Unfortunately, you can’t do this by selecting them all at the same time, though it won’t take long to do them one by one. When you have finished you will notice all the triangles will have disappeared and you will be left with your original text spliced up. In order to edit or move the individual selections, you will need to ungroup the selection as shown below.

Now, you can begin to start selecting the individual fragments and moving them apart. Try adjusting the size of the fragments and nudging them outwards using the cursor keys. You can also try rotating them slightly to add a more scattered look. If the shards of “glass” appear too close together or overlaps too much, you can try adding a white stroke to the outline to try separate them visually. Secondly, you can try breaking up the logo more using circular lines similar to the steps above, to create a more realistic broken glass look. You should come up with something as shown below.

Tweak around with your design until you are happy with the overall look, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Try incorporate this effect into your logos – it can look really effective if only applied to one or two words in your logo – especially if you would like to portray a “smashing” or “heavy impact” connotation to your brand.

Read on to find out how to choose the best picture frame for your home decor.

Whether enclosing a precious work of art or a prized family photograph, a picture frame is a design element not to be overlooked. A carefully chosen frame adds to the aesthetics and overall harmony of a well-decorated room, while a bad frame can ruin the entire effect of the artwork.

Before shopping for frames, visit art galleries and museums in your area to see how different frames are used to enhance photographs and paintings. Browse decorating books and magazines to see framed pictures displayed in homes. Next, consider the type of picture and the style in which the room is decorated to determine what type of frame would best fit.

Above all, the frame must complement the image it holds. When searching for a frame, keep in mind the painting or photo and find a frame that will enhance it. For example, an ornate gold frame looks wonderful with a traditional oil painting, while a natural wood frame suits a painting of a lush forest, and a soft blue frame could be used to accentuate a color from the picture it encloses.

The size and shape of the frame also make an impact on the art. A small picture can have greater presence matted in a larger, elaborate frame. A frame with thick sides can also keep a small painting from going unnoticed, while a large painting is often set off to best effect by a plain, thin frame.

The decorating style and function of the room where the picture will be hung must also be considered when choosing a frame. Also consider the wall where the painting will hang. A white frame against a white wall can get lost, where a green frame will stand out. If the painting will be hung on busy wallpaper, make sure the frame contrasts with the background.

The frame must fit the artwork for which it is meant. If framing an oil painting on stretcher bars, make sure the frame is deep enough to accommodate the bars. If using a metal frame on a large picture, see that it is strong and will not buckle.

If you are hanging a collection of photos or prints together, use similar frames to visually link them. The frames could be all of the same style, or perhaps different shapes and sizes, but all in the same color. These frames should be simple in order to focus attention on the pictures.

You can find photo frames in most home decorating shops, and many arts and crafts supply stores sell frames for paintings and photos. How to Decorate Your Interior Without Spending a Cent

In thecurrent world financial situation, money no longer grows on trees! Did it ever?

Money is a lot harder to come by, people are afraid of losing their jobs, worried about their financial future and less likely to be committing to making major changes to their home interiors, but that doesn’t mean we have to sit back and put up with the status quo. We can have fun and change our interiors without having to spend a cent. We just need to get a little creative! Here are some ideas on how you can make your home feel like it has had a makeover without spending a cent.

1. Shift furniture into different rooms, it’s amazing how a change of environment can make a piece of furniture look completely different.

2. Rearrange your artwork on the walls, reposition mirrors - these help change the light in your room and depending on where you place them, can make a room feel larger.

3. Clean your walls. I know this sounds too simple, but over time all the little knocks and bumps leave marks, from experience your existing walls can look like they have just been repainted if you give them a good scrub. I use sugar soap - brilliant stuff.

4. Take down your curtains and give them a vacuum (Hoover - or whatever you call it in your country) Spot clean them, and as for above, they will look much brighter and look as good as new.

5. Have a chat with your neighbor and see if they want to swap any home decor for a few months until you both tire of it again. This could be an area rug, artificial flower arrangement, decorative pots, sculpture, wall hanging, vases, coat stands, foot stools, cushions, basically anything that you are sick of looking at. Instead of storing it in the garage or throwing it away, share it and when it comes time to swap back, you may have created new feelings for it!

6. Some banks, stores and credit card companies offer rewards points or dollars. Have you thought about using those to get a few new decorative items for your home. An easy way to have the feel good factor of something new without having to part with any money.

7. Dig to the back of your linen cupboard and pull out the towels that never get used, bring them to the front and it will feel like you have new towels for your bathroom.

8. The same can be said for bed linen, sheets, duvet covers, pillow slips, cushion covers and bedspreads. We often have more than one but forget about them stuffed down the back of the cupboard, clean out the cupboards and see what you can drag out, mix and match them in your different rooms and you have a new look! Check for throw rugs and cushions that may have been stored away, drag them out give them a dust and find them a new home and store your existing ones back in the cupboard!

9. Look in the garage for things that have been put away. Pack up things in the house that you have had enough of looking at, and swap them over. These could be floor standing lamps, side table lamps, collections of glass figurines, children’s crafts that you just couldn’t part with, and could provide a talking point now they have grown up, a stack of vintage suitcases that you didn’t know what to do with, place a linen cover on top and use them as a side table, similar thing with old hat boxes.

10. Paint the outdoor pots a different color, let’s face it we all have paint lying around in our garage, take it out and give the outside a revamp, perhaps paint the front door a new color, or the letterbox.

11. Make a feature wall from spare wallpaper, if it’s textured you could always paint it to add color, or just paint a wall and make it a feature.

Untuk interior ruang tamu, penerapan gaya art deco yang banyak memakai ornamen bulat, kotak-kotak, atau bentuk geometris lainnya, cukup dijadikan aksen saja. Misalnya, hanya dipakai untuk lemari TV atau lemari display lainnya.

Sedangkan perabot lainnya, seperti meja dan kursi, dipilih model yang simpel dan finishingnya memakai warna cocoa brown (cokelat gelap). Bila perlu, diberi aksen warna hitam agar terlihat lebih mewah.

Sedangkan meja dan kursi di ruang makan, juga dipilih yang modelnya simpel. Top table-nya bisa memakai kayu, dapat pula memakai kaca. Dinding ruang makannya diberi ornamen, misalnya batu paras Yogyakarta, dan kaca cermin kotak-kotak (kaca patri).

Kemudian untuk penerangannya memakai lampu gantung berbentuk geometris, bulat, kotak, atau prisma.

Sementara untuk kursi makannya, kebanyakan dengan high backing dan bahan yang dipakai biasanya ‘chenille’ warna coklat, krem atau hitam kulit (ram).

How to Create a 3D Text Photo Manipulation

Let’s get this thing rolling, shall we?

Opening the stock photo in Illustrator

1 We are going to use a free stock photo of a living room called Home Interiors 1 by Jeinny Solis. Download this image.

2 Open the Home Interiors 1 photo in Illustrator by choosing File > Open… (Ctrl + O).

Placing the text onto the canvas

3 Use the Type Tool (T) to add the text "Dd" onto the canvas.

4 Resize the text by activating the Selection Tool (V), holding down the Shift key to keep the text proportional, and then dragging the transform controls appropriately so that the size is roughly the same size as the following figure.

5 Change the fill of the text using the Fill Tool (X): the color used in this tutorial is a red color (#CC3333) but you can use any color (though keep in mind that it is easier to work with a mid-toned color).

Giving the text a 3D look with the Extrude & Bevel effect

6 We are going to give the text a 3-dimensional look – choose Effect > 3D > Extrude & Bevel to open up the 3D Extrude & Bevel Options dialog box. Make sure that the Preview option is checked so that you can see a live preview of the changes we’re about to make.

7 Change the position settings in the 3D Extrude & Bevel Options dialog box; this will change the angle of the text. Use the values 13, -7, and -1 which corresponds to the X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis angles.

8 Next, we are going to change the “Extrude Depth” which controls the depth of the objects extrusion. Keep in mind that if the value is too small, the extrusion will be hard to see, but if the value is too big, it will throw off the proportion of the object. The value used in this tutorial is 231 pt.

9 Finally, we are going to change the object’s perspective angle. This one is tricky because it all varies depending on the length of your text. If you were using text that is wider than what we’re using now ("Dd"), you will want to shrink that down or else it will start to curve too much. This tutorial uses 23 as the Perspective value.

Expanding and ungrouping the 3D text object

10 Now that we have created our 3D text object, it’s time to break apart each section so that we can bring it into Photoshop (This will make it easier to work with over there). To start, click on your 3D text object and choose Object > Expand Appearance to create lines and points around it and to break it up into sections.

11 Ungroup the 3D text object so we can bring it into Photoshop piece by piece, do this by choosing Object > Ungroup (Ctrl + Shift + G). You may have to use the Ungroup option a few times to completely ungroup the object.

Combining similar parts of the 3D object using Pathfinder

12 First, make sure that the Pathfinder window is visible: choose Window > Pathfinder (or Press Shift + Ctrl + F9 to toggle the window).

13 Before we start bringing the parts into Photoshop, we need to make sure that each side of our logo is one object. For example, the right inside of the lowercase "d" is separated into multiple parts; to combine similar parts into one object, hold down the Shift key and click on each individual part.

14 With the similar parts all selected, click on the "add to shape area" option in the Pathfinder window to combine them into one object. Do this for any other parts of the 3D object that are similar to each other.

Transferring the 3D text object into Photoshop

15 Now, we can start piecing our 3D text object together in Photoshop. First, create a new Photoshop document that is 3000px by 3000px in dimension (it’s easier to scale down the image or canvas size rather than scaling it up – so we’ll work with ample room).

16 Use the Selection Tool (V) and dragging around the 3D text object in Illustrator to select all of the pieces.

17 With all the parts of the 3D text object selected, choose Edit > Copy (Ctrl + C) to place it into your clipboard.

18 Head on over to Photoshop and then choose Edit > Paste (Ctrl + V) to paste the 3D text object onto your Photoshop canvas. This will sort of serve as a guide while we copy and paste each of the pieces of the 3D text object from Illustrator to Photoshop.

Adjusting the guide layer’s hue

19 We are going to change the hue of the 3D text object in Photoshop so that we can easily see the difference between the pieces we are going to bring in from Illustrator. To change the Hue, choose Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation… (Ctrl + U) to open up the Hue/Saturation dialog box. The color you choose for the hue adjustment doesn’t matter because we’re only doing this to help us see the parts easier, but in case you’re curious, I’m using a magenta color (#901252).

Bringing the Illustrator parts into Photoshop

20 To keep things organized, create a new group in the Layers Panel by clicking on the icon the looks like a folder.

21 In the new group you created, start copying (Ctrl + C) each section from Illustrator and then pasting (Ctrl + V) them into the Photoshop document until you have pieced everything back together. It may help to drop the opacity down to 50% on the pieces’ layers so that the guide we created in Step 18 shows through; this makes it easier to line up the pieces.

Setting up the composition in Photoshop

22 Let’s open up the stock photo (Home Interiors 1) in Photoshop by pasting the image in its own layer from Illustrator (or if you prefer, you can use Photoshop’s File > Place… option); the stock photo should be the lowest layer in the Photoshop document.

23 On the Layers Panel, first making sure that you’re on the new group that contains the sections of the 3D text object you copy and pasted from Illustrator to Photoshop, use the Move Tool (V) to move the entire group on the couch, for finer and more accurate movements, use the arrow keys.

Adding a drop shadow on the 3D text object

24 We are now going to start adding a shadow on the back of the couch and the wall coming from the lettering. We want to figure out where the sun is and which way the shadows are casting. In this photo, the light source come from behind the viewer, so the majority of the shadows are going to be straight behind the 3D text object. To make the shadow, we are going to start by duplicating the layer (Ctrl + J) with the 3D text object face.

25 Next, create a selection around the duplicated 3D text object face layer by Ctrl + clicking on that layer’s thumbnail in the Layer Panel.

26 With the selection created, use Edit > Fill… (Shift + F5) to fill in the selection. Use a fill color of black (#000000).

27 Move the duplicated layer down the Layers Panel, below our 3D text object. This duplicated layer will serve as the drop shadow layer.

28 To get a realistic shadow look, we are going to blur the drop shadow layer we created in the previous section. To do so, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and use the settings in the following figure.

29 Lower the opacity of the drop shadow layer to 25% and change the layer’s Blend Mode to Linear Burn. Now, we want to duplicate this layer by right-clicking on the layer in the Layers Panel and choosing Duplicate Layer… (Ctrl + J).

30 Change the Blend Mode of the duplicated layer to Overlay; this will give us a shadow that doesn’t look flat and unrealistic.

31 To keep our work organized, create a new group (using the folder icon on the Layers Panel) called "Logo Shadow" and move the two drop shadow layers we just created inside that folder.

Masking areas that shouldn’t have the drop shadow

32 Add a layer mask by clicking on the second icon from the left in the Layers Panel inside the "Logo Shadow" group.

33 Set your foreground color to black (#000000) and use the Brush Tool (B) with a Hard Round brush tip to paint areas on the layer mask that don’t need the shadow. For example, the bottom shadow that hangs over the bottom part of the 3D text object can be masked. For the brush tip settings, you can set the Master Diameter to 60px, the Hardness to 50% and Opacity to 100%.

You should end up with something like the following figure.

Creating more drop shadows

34 Now, we are going to duplicate each of our edges of the 3D text object so we can create some more shadows. To do this, activate the Move Tool (V), click one of your edges in the canvas, and duplicate the selection into another layer by pressing Ctrl + J.

35 Create a new group called "Shadows" and start dragging all the duplicated layers of your edges in there.

Adjusting the color of the Shadows layers

36 We’ll use the Curves option to adjust the color of the Shadows layers; to do so, open up the Curves dialog box by choosing Adjustments > Curves… (Ctrl + M). Drag one of the sliders to the left or right until it darkens our 3D text object’s sides. Repeat this step from every edge of the 3D text object except for the top part of the letter "d" to make the lighting dynamics realistic.

Adding the layer styles to the front face

37 We are going to add some layer styles to the front face of our 3D text object. First, make sure the layer containing the front face of our 3D text object is active in the Layers Panel. Then, click on the Add a Layer Style… icon on the bottom of the Layer Panel (the icon that looks like the letters "fx") and then select Inner Shadow. This is going to give us some contrast and give the 3D text object’s face a more realistic look.

38 Click on the Add a Layer Style… icon again, but this time select Bevel and Emboss. This is going to give us a shine effect on the edges of the logo, which gives the impression that the light is reflecting off of it.

Your outcome should look something like the following figure.

Adding an edge to the 3D text object

39 Let’s add an edge to the 3D text object, kind of like a brass band around it. First, duplicate the 3D text object face layer (Ctrl + J), then create a selection around the 3D text object face by Ctrl + clicking on the layer’s thumbnail in the Layers Panel.

40 With the selection around the 3D text object created, choose Select > Modify > Contract, and enter 3px in the Contract By field to reduce the size of the selection.

41 Delete the area under the contracted selection by choosing Edit > Clear or pressing the Del key.

42 Remove the layer styles on this layer; to do this, in the Layers Panel, drag the layer styles from the layer to the trash can icon on the far right bottom of the panel.

43 Now, create another selection in the layer by Ctrl + clicking on the layer and then fill the selection with a white color (#FFFFFF) by choosing Edit > Fill… (Shift + F5). This filled in part effectively creates a white border around our 3D text object’s face.

Adding layer styles to the edge of the 3D text object

44 Add some layer styles to the white border we just created by clicking on the Add a Layer Style… icon in the Layers Panel and choosing Inner Glow. Change the color of the Inner Glow layer style to #CC6600 and adjust the settings to match the following figure.

45 Add another layer style to the layer, this time choose Bevel and Emboss. Change the settings to match the following figure to give the border a three-dimensional look. Change the color of the highlight to #FF9999 and the shadow to #CC3333.

46 Add a Contour layer style by checking the box below the Bevel and Emboss layer style: change the Range value to 100%.

47 Finally, add a Satin layer style: change the color setting to #FFCC66.

48 To make the design more impressive, we’ll add a slight drop shadow on the 3D text object’s edge. Start by duplicating the edge layer (Ctrl + J), creating a selection around it by Ctrl + clicking on the duplicated layer’s thumbnail, and filling the selection with a black color (#000000) using Edit > Fill… (Shift + F5).

49 Remove the layer styles on this layer (which was also duplicated from the previous layer) by dragging them onto the trash can icon.

50 Bring the duplicated layer below the original layer.

51 Use the Move Tool (V) and your arrow keys to move the edge shadow slightly to the down and to the right.

52 Blur the shadow by choosing Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and changing the Radius value to 2.0 Pixels.

53 Create a selection on the logo face layer by Ctrl + clicking on the layer’s thumbnail in the Layers Panel, and then invert the selection by choosing Select > Inverse (Ctrl + Shift + I).

54 Delete the area inside the inverted selection (Edit > Clear or press the Del key) – this will get rid of the shadow that isn’t within the 3D text object’s face.

55 Change this layer’s Blend Mode to Linear Burn, and reduce the Opacity value to 40%.

Making the superimposing more realistic

56 Now, let’s make the photo manipulation a bit more accurate. Since the 3D text object is sitting on the couch, it is probably sinking into the cushions a little bit because of its weight. To do this, we start by adding a layer mask (click on the Add layer mask icon in the Layers Panel) icon from the right on the layers palette) to both the shadows layer group and the logo edges group.

57 Using the Elliptical Marquee Tool, create a selection that looks roughly the same as the following figure.

58 Fill both layer masks with a black color (#000000) by choosing Edit > Fill… (Shift + F5).

59 Do Steps 56 – 58 for the lower portion of each of letter – this will give us an edge that makes the 3D text object look like it’s sinking into the couch a little bit.

Creating shadows on the couch

60 To make our composition even more realistic, we’re going to add a shadow on the couch. First, create a layer called "Couch Shadow".

61 Activate the Brush Tool (B), and use a brush tip with the Opacity set at 10%. Start painting in some shadow areas, focusing on the bottom of the logo on the couch, and a little shadow on each of the pillows.

62 After you have created the shadows, duplicate the "Couch Shadow" layer (Ctrl + J) and change the Blend Mode of the new layer to Overlay.

Blending the 3D object text into its background

63 We want to adjust the color of the duplicated layer so that we can blend the 3D text object with its background. To achieve this, we’ll add a light blue reflection going across the canvas. First, set your foreground color to a light blue color (#9ABAFB) and then create a new layer.

64 Now, choose the Gradient Tool (G) in the Tools Palette, and set the gradient type to Reflected Gradient. Create the gradient on the new layer by clicking and dragging your mouse so that it follows the reflection on the wall.

65 Create a layer mask (by clicking on the Add layer mask icon in the Layers Panel) and then create an inverse selection on the 3D text object’s face by first Ctrl + clicking on its layer group in the Layers Panel, and then inverting the selection using Select > Inverse (Ctrl + Shift + I).

66 Fill the inverted selection with a black color (#000000).

67 Change the layer’s blend mode to Soft Light.

Adjusting the color of the 3D text object

68 Let’s change the Hue/Saturation of the text by adding an adjustment layer. Click on the Create fill or add adjustment layer icon on the bottom of the Layers Panel and then choose Hue/Saturation.

69 You’ll notice that the adjustment layer changes the entire image. To fix this we are going to add a layer mask (click on the Add layer mask icon on the bottom of the Layers Panel) to the Hue/Saturation layer.

70 Create a selection around the 3D text object’s face by Ctrl + clicking on the layer group in the Layers Panel. Invert the selection, Select > Inverse (Ctrl + Shift + I).

71 Making sure you’re on the layer mask – fill the selected area with a black color (#000000).

72 We’ll adjust the Curves again, Image > Adjustments > Curves (Ctrl + M); use similar settings as the figure below.

73 We’re going to adjust the Color Balance settings, Image > Adjustments > Color Balance… (Ctrl + B); use similar settings as the figures below.

Congratulations, you’re done!

That’s it, play around some more, maybe experiment with color adjustments, add textures to the 3D text object, and adjust the positioning/angling of the 3D text object until you get something that you like.

1.1. Mengenal Area Kerja

Buka file Adobe History.indd yang ada dalam sample files.

Area kerja Adobe InDesign mirip dengan area kerja Adobe Photoshop. Di sebelah kiri terdapat ToolBox, sebelah kanan terdapat Workspace Window (Pallete) yang bisa dimunculkan atau disembunyikan.

Di bagian tengah terletak Document Window yang berisi dokumen yang sedang dibuat. Di bagian ini terlihat rule, magnify, halaman. Pada halaman dokumen itu sendiri terlihat bagian mana yang ikut tercetak, dan bagian mana yang tidak tercetak.

1.2. Praktek Bab I

1.2.1. Membuat dokumen baru

Gunakan File -> New -> Document. Klik tombol More Options untuk memunculkan setting tambahan. Untuk menyembunyikan Setting tambahan, klik tombol Fewer Options.

1.2.2. Membuat preset

Preset dapat dibuat melalui New Document window.

1.2.3. Mengaktifkan Bleed dan Slug

Bleed adalah bagian yang tidak tercetak, sedangkan slug adalah bagian tempat komentar atau catatan lain.

1.2.4. Membuat Frame

Semua objek seperti gambar, teks, dan objek lain harus ditempatkan dalam frame yang berupa rectangle, ellipse, atau Poligon. Tekan Shift untuk membuat bentuk proporsional.

1.2.5. Mengubah Margin dan Kolom

Margin dan Kolom dapat diubah melalui menu Layout -> Margin and Columns.

1.2.6. Mengekspor File

Dokumen Adobe InDesign dapat diekspor ke tipe lain melalui menu File -> Export.

1.2.7. Mencetak dokumen (print)

Untuk mencetak dokumen, gunakan menu File -> Print.

BAB II – PAGES & MASTER PAGES

2.1. Mengatur Palette Options

Untuk mengaktifkan palette option, klik kanan pada Palette Pages. Di sini Anda dapat mengatur besar kecilnya icon dan susunannya.

2.2. Mengatur tiap halaman

Untuk mengatur tiap halaman, klik pada halaman yang dikehendaki pada Palette Pages.

2.3. Menambahkan halaman baru

Untuk menambahkan halaman baru, klik kanan pada Pallete Pages, pilih Insert Pages, atau melalui menu Layout -> Pages -> Insert Pages.

2.4. Mengatur Master Pages

Halaman master (Master Pages) adalah halaman yang setting dan isinya dapat diterapkan pada halaman lain. Mengatur halaman master dilakukan dengan double klik pada icon Master Pages. Menerapkan halaman master dilakukan dengan klik kanan pada Pallete Pages pada icon Master Pages. Master dapat dibuat dari master atau halaman yang lain dengan Drag & Drop.

2.5. Membuat Pages Number

Untuk membuat Pages Number, sorot (blok) pada bagian teks yang akan dibuat Pages Number, kemudian klik menu Type -> Insert Special Character -> Auto Page Number. Lakukan hal ini pada master pages, maka semua halaman yang memakai master pages tersebut telah memiliki Pages Number. Untuk mengatur format Pages Number, klik kanan pada nomor yang ada di bawah icon pages di Palette Pages.

BAB III – MODIFIKASI OBJEK & WARNA

3.1. Membuat corner effect

Gunakan menu Object -> Corner Effect untuk modifikasi bentuk sudut pada frame.

3.2. Feather

Feather digunakan untuk mengaburkan tepi dari objek. Gunakan menu Object -> Feather.

3.3. Drop Shadow

Drop Shadow digunakan untuk memberi bayangan pada objek. Drop Shadow dimunculkan melalui menu Object -> Drop Shadow.

3.4. Mengatur Warna

Warna fill, stroke, transparancy, dan gradient dapat diatur pada Pallete Color. Warna yang sering digunakan diletakkan dalam Pallet Swatches.

BAB IV – LAYER & LIBRARY

4.1. Membuat layer baru

Untuk membuat layer baru, klik kiri pada segitiga yang terletak di sudut kiri atas pada Palette Layer.

4.2. Duplikasi objek pada layer lain

Duplikasi objek pada layer lain dilakukan dengan menekan CTRL + ALT pada objek, kemudian klik tanda segiempat yang muncul pada Palette Layer, drag pada layer yang dikehendaki. Tanda ’+’ akan muncul menandakan proses duplikasi akan dilakukan.

4.3. Library

Library adalah objek yang dapat digunakan pada file-file lain. Gunakan library untuk membuat objek yang sering dipakai. Library dibuat melalui menu File -> New -> Library.

BAB V – TEXT STYLE

5.1. Menempatkan Teks Placeholder

Jika Anda membuat frame, frame tersebut kosong dan Anda ingin mengisi dengan teks dummy, gunakan menu Type -> Fill with PlaceHolder Text.

5.2. Text Frame Option

Melalui menu Object -> Text Frame Options, Anda dapat mengatur format teks. Aktifkan pilihan Preview untuk melihat hasil secara langsung.

5.3. Baseline Option

Baseline Option digunakan untuk mengatur posisi teks terhadap frame, halaman, margin, atau inset.

5.4. Frame Link

Teks dapat bersambung terletak pada lebih dari satu frame. Untuk menyambungkan frame dilakukan dengan cara klik pada tanda segitiga yang ada pada sudut kanan bawah frame, kemudian klik pada frame berikutnya.

5.5. Text Wrap

Text Wrap digunakan untuk mengatur alur teks agar tidak menutupi gambar. Gunakan menu Window -> Text Wrap.

BAB VI – IMAGE & TABLE

6.1. Menempatkan Image

Untuk menempatkan image, klik pada frame, kemudian gunakan menu File -> Place. Aktifkan pilihan Show Import Option. Cara lain adalah dengan membuka gambar dengan aplikasi lain (misalnya Adobe Photoshop), copy, dan paste di Adobe InDesign.

6.2. Fitting Image

Fitting Image dilakukan untuk mengatur peletakan gambar pada frame. Ada beberapa pilihan: Fit Content To Frame, Fit Frame To Content, Center Content, Fit Content Proportionally, dan Fit Frame Proportionally.

6.3. Membuat Table

Untuk membuat tabel, gunakan Text Tool kemudian buat kotak dengan drag & drop. Selanjutnya pilih menu Insert -> Table.

Tipografi sebuah ilmu tentang huruf

Tipografi merupakan suatu ilmu dalam memilih dan menata huruf dengan pengaturan penyebarannya pada ruang-ruang yang tersedia, untuk menciptakan kesan tertentu, sehingga dapat menolong pembaca untuk mendapatkan kenyamanan membaca semaksimal mungkin.

Dikenal pula seni tipografi, yaitu karya atau desain yang menggunakan pengaturan huruf sebagai elemen utama. Dalam seni tipografi, pengertian huruf sebagai lambang bunyi bisa diabaikan.

Sejarah perkembangan tipografi dimulai dari penggunaan pictograph. Bentuk bahasa ini antara lain dipergunakan oleh bangsa Viking Norwegia dan Indian Sioux. Di Mesir berkembang jenis huruf Hieratia, yang terkenal dengan nama Hieroglif pada sekitar abad 1300 SM. Bentuk tipografi ini merupakan akar dari bentuk Demotia, yang mulai ditulis dengan menggunakan pena khusus.

Bentuk tipografi tersebut akhirnya berkembang sampai di Kreta, lalu menjalar ke Yunani dan akhirnya menyebar keseluruh Eropa.

Puncak perkembangan tipografi, terjadi kurang lebih pada abad 8 SM di Roma saat orang Romawi mulai membentuk kekuasaannya. Karena bangsa Romawi tidak memiliki sistem tulisan sendiri, mereka mempelajari sistem tulisan Etruska yang merupakan penduduk asli Italia serta menyempurnakannya sehingga terbentuk huruf-huruf Romawi.

Saat ini tipografi mengalami perkembangan dari fase penciptaan dengan tangan hingga mengalami komputerisasi. Fase komputerisasi membuat penggunaan tipografi menjadi lebih mudah dan dalam waktu yang lebih cepat dengan jenis pilihan huruf yang ratusan jumlahnya.

Secara garis besar huruf-huruf digolongkan menjadi:

Roman, dengan ciri memiliki sirip/kaki/serif yang berbentuk lancip pada ujungnya. Kesan yang ditimbulkan adalah klasik, anggun, lemah gemulai dan feminin. Termasuk didalamnya times new roman.

Egyptian, dengan ciri kaki/sirip/serif yang berbentuk persegi seperti papan dengan ketebalan yang sama atau hampir sama. Kesan yang ditimbulkan adalah kokoh, kuat, kekar dan stabil.

Serif, Jenis huruf ini memiliki garis-garis kecil yang disebut counterstrokepada ujung-ujung badan huruf. Garis-garis tersebut berdiri horisontal terhadap badan huruf. Huruf serif dikenal lebih mudah dibaca karena kaitnya tersebut menuntun pandangan pembaca membaca baris teks yang sedang dibacanya. Contoh: Times New Roman, Garamond, Book Antiqua, Bitstream Vera Serif, Palatino Linotype, Bookman Old Style, Calisto MT, Dutch, Euro Roman, Georgia, Pan Roman, Romantic, Souevenir, Super French dan lain-lain.

Sans Serif, dengan ciri tanpa sirip/serif, dan memiliki ketebalan huruf yang sama atau hampir sama. Kesan yang ditimbulkan oleh huruf jenis ini adalah modern, kontemporer dan efisien. Jenis huruf ini tidak memiliki garis-garis kecil yang disebut counterstroke.
Huruf ini berkarakter streamline, fungsional, modern dan kontemporer.
Contoh: Arial, Futura, Avant Garde, Bitstream Vera Sans, Century Gothic
dan lain sebagainya.

Script, merupakan goresan tangan yang dikerjakan dengan pena, kuas atau pensil tajam dan biasanya miring ke kanan. Kesan yang ditimbulkannya adalah sifast pribadi dan akrab.

Miscellaneous, merupakan pengembangan dari bentuk-bentuk yang sudah ada. Ditambah hiasan dan ornamen, atau garis-garis dekoratif. Kesan yang dimiliki adalah dekoratif dan ornamental. Biasa disebut decoratif font.

Legibility dan Keterbacaan
Legibility adalah tingkat kemudahan mata mengenali suatu tulisan tanpa harus bersusah payah. Hal ini bisa ditentukan oleh:

Kerumitan desain huruf, seperti penggunaan serif, kontras stroke, dan sebagainya.

Penggunaan warna

Frekuensi pengamat menemui huruf tersebut dalam kehidupan sehari-hari

Communication, Francis Meynell, seperti dikutip oleh Ruari
Maclean mengatakan tentang legibility sebagai
berikut:
By legibility, I mean a proper observance in all infinite detail of that principle of order and conversion which is the basis of written communication. Printing is the vehicle, legibility is the well-greased bearinng that allows the whells of sense to revolve without squelling.
Legibility adalah tampilan yang layak atau pantas dari dasar-dasara turan dan kebiasaan dalam semua detil/rincian yang tak terbatas dan menjadi
dasar komunikasi tertulis. Cetakan adalah kendaraan/sarana keterbacaan adalah peluru sendi yang dilumasi dengan baik sehingga memungkinkan roda-roda perasaan berputar tanpa berdecit.
Keterbacaan / readability adalah tingkat kenyamanan suatu susunan huruf saat dibaca, yang dipengaruhi oleh:

Nirmana trimatra

Nimana trimatra atau seringkali disebut nirmana tiga dimensi biasanya dibuat sebagai aksen dalam tata ruang. Nirmana adalah pengorganisasian atau penyusunan elemen-elemen visual seperti titik, garis, warna, ruang dan tekstur menjadi satu kesatuan yang harmonis. Nirmana dapat juga diartikan sebagai hasil angan-angan dalam bentuk dwimatra, trimatra yang harus mempunyai nilai keindahan. Nirmana disebut juga ilmu tatarupa.

Nirmana layaknya tutorial desain grafis yang utama, dalam kaitanya sebagai ilmu yang mempelajari core desain sebelum memasukkannya dalam software desain grafis atau caturan-aturan penting yang wajib dipakai dalam pembuatan setiap karya desain. Di dalam Nirmana, seseorang akan mempelajari segala sesuatu yang berhubungan dengan seni rupa dan desain pada level dasar seperti mempelajari garis, bidang, bentuk dan gempal ( dimensi dan tebal ). Pada nirmana tri matra biasa kita akan mempelajari bagaimana nirmana dibentuk sesuai dengan tata rupa yang pastinya mempunyai kaidah dan prinsip seni rupa. Nirmana trimatra mempunyai gempal atau ketebalan dan dimensi yang tidak dimiliki oleh nirmana trimatra.

Untuk mendapatkan nirmana tri matra biasanya dimulai dari pembuatan objek dasar seperti persegi, lingkaran, segitiga, segi lima, segi enam dan bentuk dasar lainnya. Bentuk dasar tersebut kemudian ditata dan disusun sedemikian rupa sehingga membentuk sebuah pola. Pola dan bentuk dari nirmana dwimatra biasanya disusun dengan cara memutar objek dua dimensi ( rotate ), memiringkan objek ( skew ), menduplikasi objek ( duplicate ), merubah ukuran ( transform ), membalik objek dwimatra ( mirror ), dan atau langkah kombinasi dari kesemuanya.

Terkadang untuk membuat nirmana trimatra, dimulai dari pembuatan objek dwimatra yang kemudian ditransformasikan ke dalam objek tiga dimensi. Di dalam software coreldaw kita sering menyebutnya di extrude. Oleh karena itu nirmana trimatra bisa disebut dengan nirmana tingkat atau generasi kedua. Perbedaan utama nirmana tri matra dan nirmana dwi matra adalaah pada bidang dan objeknya.

Lantas, sebenarnya apa yang membuat nirmana menjadi menarik. Mungkin sampai saat ini masih banyak pendapat mengenai hal ini. Seperti kompleksitas, harmoni, banyaknya bentuk, banyaknya warna, penipuan mata ( terkadang objek nirmana dwimatra membuat seakan-akan bergerak padahal tidak ). Tapi kesemuanya berujung pada bagaimana cara pandang kita atau cara pandang audience sendiri. Ini lebih menuju pada unsur seni dan estetika seni rupa atau estetika desain grafis.

Unsur, Definisi, Prinsip dan Istilah DKV

Pada tutorial desain grafis ini saya akan membahas tentang Unsur, Definisi, Prinsip dan Istilah DKV yang juga masuk dalam dunia desain grafis. Dalam Pembuatan sebuah desain kita perlu memperhatikan bentuk desain yang diinginkan. Pembahasan ini akan membantu Anda dalam membuat karya desain grafis ketika Anda mempraktekkan tutorial photoshop, tutorial illustrator, tutorial coreldraw dan tutorial menggunakan software desain grafis lainnya. Tentunya supaya desain Anda dapat dilihat bagus (sesuai maksud dan tujuan Anda membuatnya), maka unsur-unsur pembuatan design yang perlu diperhatikan adalah :

UNSUR
Unsur dalam setiap hasil karya desain grafis dan DKV terdiri dari bagian-bagian yang bisa dipelajari secara terpisah. Pada setiap hasil karya desain pasti ada minimal satu dari unsur berikut :

1. Garis (Line)
Sebuah garis adalah unsur desain yang menghubungkan antara satu titik poin dengan titik poin yang lain sehingga bisa berbentuk gambar garis lengkung (curve) atau lurus (straight). Garis adalah unsur dasar untuk membangun bentuk atau konstruksi desain. Di dalam duni a komunikasi visual seringkali kita menggunakan dotted line, solid line, dan garis putus-putus.

2. Bentuk (Shape)
Bentuk adalah segala hal yang memiliki diameter tinggi dan lebar. Bentuk dasar yang dikenal orang adalah kotak (rectangle), lingkaran (circle), dan segitiga (triangle). Pada desain komunikasi visual kita akan mempelajari betuk dasar dan bentuk turunan. Sementara pada kategori sifatnya, bentuk dapat dikategorikan menjadi tiga, yaitu:

2.1) Huruf (Character) : yang direpresentasikan dalam bentuk visual yang dapat digunakan untuk membentuk tulisan sebagai wakil dari bahasa verbal dengan bentuk visual langsung, seperti A, B, C, dsb.

2.2) Simbol (Symbol) : yang direpresentasikan dalam bentuk visual yang mewakili bentuk benda secara sederhana dan dapat dipahami secara umum sebagai simbol atau lambang untuk menggambarkan suatu bentuk benda nyata, misalnya gambar orang, bintang, matahari dalam bentuk sederhana (simbol), bukan dalam bentuk nyata (dengan detail).

2.3) Bentuk Nyata (Form) : bentuk ini betul-betul mencerminkan kondisi fisik dari suatu obyek. Seperti gambar manusia secara detil, hewan atau benda lainnya.

3. Tekstur (Texture)
Tekstur adalah tampilan permukaan (corak) dari suatu benda yang dapat dinilai dengan cara dilihat atau diraba. Yang pada prakteknya, tekstur sering dikategorikan sebagai corak dari suatu permukaan benda, misalnya permukaan karpet, baju, kulit kayu, cat dinding, cat canvas, dan lain sebagainya.

4. Ruang (Space)
Ruang merupakan jarak antara suatu bentuk dengan bentuk lainnya, pada praktek desain dapat dijadikan unsur untuk memberi efek estetika desain dan dinamika desain grafis. Sebagai contoh, tanpa ruang Anda tidak akan tahu mana kata dan mana kalimat atau paragraf. Tanpa ruang Anda tidak tahu mana yang harus dilihat terlebih dahulu, kapan harus membaca dan kapan harus berhenti sebentar. Dalam bentuk fisiknya pengidentifikasian ruang digolongkan menjadi dua unsur, yaitu obyek (figure) dan latar belakang (background).

5. Ukuran (Size)
Ukuran adalah unsur lain dalam desain yang mendefinisikan besar kecilnya suatu obyek. Dengan menggunakan unsur ini Anda dapat menciptakan kontras dan penekanan (emphasis) pada obyek desain anda sehingga orang akan tahu mana yang akan dilihat atau dibaca terlebih dahulu.

6. Warna (Color)
Warna merupakan unsur penting dalam obyek desain. Karena dengan warna orang bisa menampilkan identitas, menyampaikan pesan atau membedakan sifat dari bentuk-bentuk bentuk visual secara jelas. Dalam prakteknya warna dibedakan menjadi dua: yaitu warna yang ditimbulkan karena sinar (Additive color/RGB) yang biasanya digunakan pada warna lampu, monitor, TV dan sebagainya, dan warna yang dibuat dengan unsur-unsur tinta atau cat (Substractive color/CMYK) yang biasanya digunakan dalam proses pencetakan gambar ke permukaan benda padat seperti kertas, logam, kain atau plastik.

Dengan menggunakan unsur-unsur desain tersebut, Anda akan membuat bentuk desain yang diinginkan. Tentunya supaya desain Anda dapat dilihat bagus (sesuai maksud dan tujuan Anda membuatnya), maka Anda harus mengenal unsur-unsur di atas secara baik.

DefinisiDesain Komunikasi Visual adalah ilmu yang mempelajari konsep komunikasi dan ungkapan kreatif, teknik dan media untuk menyampaikan pesan dan gagasan secara visual, termasuk audio dengan mengolah elemen desain grafis berupa bentuk gambar, huruf dan warna, serta tata letaknya, sehingga pesan dan gagasan dapat diterima oleh sasarannya.

Prinsip
Pesan visual harus kreatif (asli, inovatif dan lancar), komunikatif, efisien dan efektif, sekaligus indah/estetis. Berbeda dengan prinsip desain grafis. Dalam ilmu desain grafis, selain prinsip-prinsip diatas ada beberapa prinsip utama komunikasi visual dari sebuah karya desain.

Ruang Kosong (White Space)
Ruang kosong dimaksudkan agar karya tidak terlalu padat dalam penempatannya pada sebuah bidang dan menjadikan sebuah obyek menjadi dominan.
Kejelasan (Clarity)
Kejelasan atau clarity mempengaruhi penafsiran penonton akan sebuah karya. Bagaimana sebuah karya tersebut dapat mudah dimengerti dan tidak menimbulkan ambigu/ makna ganda.
Kesederhanaan (Simplicity)
Kesederhanaan menuntut penciptaan karya yang tidak lebih dan tidak kurang. Kesederhanaan seing juga diartikan tepat dan tidak berlebihan. Pencapaian kesederhanaan mendorong penikmat untuk menatap lama dan tidak merasa jenuh.
Emphasis (Point of Interest)
Emphasis atau disebut juga pusat perhatian, merupakan pengembangan dominasi yang bertujuan untuk menonjolkan salah satu unsur sebagai pusat perhatian sehingga mencapai nilai artistic.

Prinsip – prinsip dasar seni rupa

Kesatuan (Unity)
Kesatuan merupakan salah satu prinsip dasar tata rupa yang sangat penting. Tidak adanya kesatuan dalam sebuah karya rupa akan membuat karya tersebut terlihat cerai-berai, kacau-balau yang mengakibatkan karya tersebut tidak nyaman dipandang. Prinsip ini sesungguhnya adalah prinsip hubungan. Jika salah satu atau beberapa unsur rupa mempunyai hubungan (warna, raut, arah, dll), maka kesatuan telah tercapai.
Keseimbangan (Balance)
Karya seni dan desain harus memiliki keseimbangan agar nyaman dipandang dan tidak membuat gelisah. Seperti halnya jika kita melihat pohon atau bangunan yang akan roboh, kita measa tidak nyaman dan cenderung gelisah. Keseimbangan adalah keadaan yang dialami oleh suatu benda jika semua dayan yang bekerja saling meniadakan. Dalam bidang seni keseimbangan ini tidak dapat diukur tapi dapat dirasakan, yaitu suatu keadaan dimana semua bagian dalam sebuah karya tidak ada yang saling membebani.
Proporsi (Proportion)
Proporsi termasuk prinsip dasar tata rupa untuk memperoleh keserasian. Untuk memperoleh keserasian dalam sebuah karya diperlukan perbandingan – perbandingan yang tepat. Pada dasarnya proporsi adalah perbandingan matematis dalam sebuah bidang. Proporsi Agung (The Golden Mean) adalah proporsi yang paling populer dan dipakai hingga saat ini dalam karya seni rupa hingga karya arsitektur. Proporsi ini menggunakan deret bilangan Fibonacci yang mempunyai perbandingan 1:1,618, sering juga dipakai 8 : 13. Konon proporsi ini adalah perbandingan yang ditemukan di benda-benda alam termasuk struktur ukuran tubuh manusia sehingga dianggap proporsi yang diturunkan oleh Tuhan sendiri. Dalam bidang desain proporsi ini dapat kita lihat dalam perbandingan ukuran kertas dan layout halaman.
Irama (Rhythm)
Irama adalah pengulangan gerak yang teratur dan terus menerus. Dalam bentuk – bentuk alam bisa kita ambil contoh pengulangan gerak pada ombak laut, barisan semut, gerak dedaunan, dan lain-lain. Prinsip irama sesungguhnya adalah hubungan pengulangan dari bentuk – bentuk unsur rupa.
Dominasi (Domination)
Dominasi merupakan salah satu prinsip dasar tatarupa yang harus ada dalam karya seni dan desain. Dominasi berasal dari kata Dominance yang berarti keunggulan . Sifat unggul dan istimewa ini akan menjadikan suatu unsure sebagai penarik dan pusat perhatian. Dalam dunia desain, dominasi sering juga disebut Center of Interest, Focal Point dan Eye Catcher. Dominasi mempunyai bebrapa tujuan yaitu untuk menarik perhatian, menghilangkan kebosanan dan untuk memecah keberaturan. Biasanya ditengarahi dengan emphasis.

ISTILAH
1. Seni Grafis / Graphic Arts, termasuk ke dalam kelompok bidang ilmu Seni Murni.

Kemudian kata komunikasi berarti menyampaikan suatu pesan dari komunikator ( penyampai pesan ) kepada komunikan (penerima pesan) melalui suatu media dengan maksud tertentu. Komunikasi sendiri berasal dari bahasa Inggris communication yang diambil dari bahasa Latin “communis” yang berarti “sama” ( dalam Bahasa Inggris:common ). Kemudian komunikasi kemudian dianggap sebagai proses menciptakan suatau kesamaan ( commonness ) atau suatau kesatuan pemikiran antara pengirim ( komunikator ) dan penerima ( komunikan ).

Sementara kata visual bermakna segala sesuatu yang dapat dilihat dan direspon oleh indera penglihatan kita yaitu mata. Berasal dari kata Latin videre yang artinya melihat yang kemudian dimasukkan ke dalam bahasa Inggris visual.

Jadi Desain Komunikasi Visual bisa dikatakan sebagai seni menyampaikan pesan ( arts of commmunication ) dengan menggunakan bahasa rupa ( visual language ) yang disampaikan melalui media berupa desain yang bertujuan menginformasikan, mempengaruhi hingga merubah perilaku target audience sesuai dengan tujuan yang ingin diwujudkan. Sedang Bahasa rupa yang dipakai berbentuk grafis, tanda, simbol, ilustrasi gambar/foto, tipografi/huruf dan sebagainya yang disusun berdasarkan kaidah bahasa visual yang khas berdasar ilmu tata rupa. Isi pesan diungkapkan secara kreatif dan komunikatif serta mengandung solusi untuk permasalahan yang hendak disampaikan (baik sosial maupun komersial ataupun berupa informasi, identifikasi maupun persuasi).

Dalam Buku Pengantar Metode Penelitian Budaya Rupa, Agus Sachari menjelaskan Desain Komunikasi Visual adalah Profesi yang mengkaji dan mempelajari desain dengan berbagai pendekatan baik hal yang menyangkut komunikasi, media, citra tanda maupun nilai.

Desain komunikasi Visual juga mengkaji hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan komunikasi dan pesan, teknologi percetakan, penggunaan teknologi multimedia dan teknik persuasi pada masyarakat.

2. Grafis / Graphic, adalah hal yang berkaitan dengan tulisan atau gambar yang mengandung makna untuk menyampaikan suatu pesan atau informasi.
3. Desain Grafis / Graphic Design, istilah yang dipakai sebelum menggunakan istilah Desain Komunikasi Visual, berasal dari kata bahasa Yunani “Graphos” yang berarti “tulisan/gambar”.Untuk mengantisipasi perkembangan dunia komunikasi visual serta perannya yang semakin luas, maka digunakan istilah: Desain Komunikasi Visual.

Dasar pemakaian warna dalam desain grafis

Dalam bisnis non-internet atau bisnis internet, pemilihan warna juga punya peran. Warna-warna memiliki peran dalam menciptakan suasana pembelian, pemerkuat image produk, serta peningkatan citra bisnis anda. Dalam feng shui, warna adalah getaran. Getaran itu selalu kita respon, secara sadar maupun tidak. Warna memengaruhi kenyamanan lingkungan dan mood. Warna yang kita kenakan sehari-hari memengaruhi pandangan orang lain terhadap kita.

Coba perhatikan misal hampir semua bisnis makanan seperti KFC, MC Donald, Pizza hut, boleh dikata semuanya menggunakan warna merah. Mengapa demikian? Konon, warna merah itu menambah nafsu makan. Sehingga para pebisnis banyak menggunakan warna merah dalam bisnis makanan. Saya pun yakin, setiap orang punya warna kesukaan masing-masing. Itu menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan antara warna dengan manusia. Seperti halnya mungkin ketika kita memilih warna busana seperti disampaikan Mbak Sari. Kekuatan warna bisa mempengaruhi sisi emosional kita.

Kuning

Respon Psikologi: Optimis, Harapan, Filosofi, Ketidak jujuran, Pengecut (untuk budaya Barat), pengkhianatan, pencerahan dan intelektualitas. Kuning adalah warna keramat dalam agama Hindu. Kuning adalah warna yang hangat. Cukup menarik perhatian dan sangat baik jika dijadikan background untuk teks hitam karena akan lebih mencolok terlihat.

Oranye
Respon Psikologi: Energy, Keseimbangan, Kehangantan. Menekankan sebuah produk yang tidak mahal.

Merah
Respon Psikologi: Power, energi, kehangatan, cinta, nafsu, agresi, bahaya, berpendirian, dinamis, dan percaya diri

Warna Merah kadang berubah arti jika dikombinasikan dengan warna lain. Merah dikombinakan dengan Hijau, maka akan menjadi simbol Natal. Merah jika dikombinasikan denga Putih, akan mempunyai arti ‘bahagia’ di budaya Oriental. Bisa berarti berani dan semangat yang berkobar-kobar. Singkatnya secara umum berhubungan dengan perasaan yang meledak-ledak. Warna merah mudah menarik perhatian dan meningkatkan nafsu. Karena itu seperti saya katakan tadi, bisnis makanan banyak menggunakan warna dominan merah karena ini dipercaya dapat meningkatkan nafsu makan pembeli, lihat saja warna pizza hut, McD, KFC yang juga ada merahnya.

Atau kalau untuk teks, warna merah pasti akan lebih menarik perhatian dibanding warna lain. Namun jika untuk background dengan teks hitam, akan membuat mata cepat lelah.

Biru
Respon Psikologi: Kepercayaan, Konservatif, Keamanan, Tehnologi, Kebersihan, Keteraturan, Damai, menyejukkan, spiritualitas, kontemplasi, misteri, dan kesabaran.
Banyak digunakan sebagai warna pada logo Bank di Amerika Serikat untuk memberikan kesan tenang, terpercaya, ilmu dan wawasan. Warna ini sangat baik untuk menumbuhkan loyalitas konsumen. Bank-bank banyak menggunakan warna biru sebagai warna dominannya, demikian juga pendidikan.

Hijau

Respon Psikologi: Alami, Sehat, Keberuntungan, Pembaharuan, pertumbuhan, kesuburan, harmoni, optimisme, kebebasan, dan keseimbangan

Warna Hijau tidak terlalu ’sukses’ untuk ukuran Global. Di Cina dan Perancis, kemasan dengan warna Hijau tidak begitu mendapat sambutan. Tetapi di Timur Tengah, warna Hijau sangat disukai. Banyak produk yang menekankan kealamian produk menggunakan warna ini sebagai pilihan. Untuk perusahaan-perusahaan yang berhubungan dengan eksplorasi alam, warna hijau banyak dipakai untuk menegaskan bahwa perusahannya berwawasan lingkungan. Warna ini termasuk yang sedang ngetren dan akan banyak dipakai khususnya dengan kampanye yang berhubungan dengan lingkungan. Kemasan deterjen juga tidak sedikit yang menggunakan warna hijau.

Ungu atau Jingga

Respon Psikologi: Spiritual, Misteri, Kebangsawanan, Transformasi, Kekasaran, Keangkuhan, Ramah, Romantis, dan Mandiri.

Warna Ungu sangat jarang ditemui di alam. Ungu adalah capuran warna merah dan biru. Menggambarkan sikap ‘gempuran’ keras yang dilambangkan dengan warna biru. Perpaduan antara keintiman dan erotis atau menjurus ke pengertian yang dalam dan peka. Bersifat kurang teliti namun penuh harapan.

Coklat
Respon Psikologi: Tanah/Bumi, Reliability, Comfort, Daya Tahan, Stabilitas, Bobot, Kestabilan dan Keanggunan.

Kemasan makanan di Amerika sering memakai warna Coklat dan sangat sukses, tetapi di Kolumbia, warna Coklat untuk kemasan kurang begitu membawa hasil.

Hitam
Respon Psikologi: Ketakutan, Power, Kecanggihan, Kematian, Misteri, Seksualitas, Kesedihan, Keanggunan, dan Independen, Berwibawa, Penyendiri, Disiplin, dan Berkemauan keras.

Melambangkan kematian dan kesedihan di budaya Barat. Sebagai warna Kemasan, Hitam melambangakan Keanggunan (Elegance), Kemakmuran (Wealth) dan Kecanggihan (Sopiscated). Menunjukkan hal yang tegas, elegan, dan eksklusif. Juga bisa mengandung makna rahasia. Seperti ketika saya memilih warna dominan hitam pada Rahasia Blogging.warnatersebut sangat mendukung kata “rahasia” yang ingin saya tekankan.

Kalau untuk warna mobil, biasanya mobil berwarna hitam lebih mahal daripada mobil berwarna lain.

Putih
Warna suci dan bersih, natural, kosong, tak berwarna, netral, awal baru, kemurnian dan kesucian

Warna yang sangat bisa dipadukan dengan warna apapun. Warna putih di situs web banyak dipakai sebagai warna background teks hitam. Sebab pengunjung akan lebih mudah untuk membacanya.

Abu Abu
Respon Psikologi: Intelek, Masa Depan (kayak warna Milenium), Kesederhanaan, Kesedihan.
Warna Abu abu adalah warna yang paling gampang/mudah dilihat oleh mata.

Kesimpulan

Warna sebagai termasuk dalam ranah nirmana. Terkadang pemakaian warna sangat membantu dalam pemilihan font dalam typografi. Kemampuan penguasaan budaya dan warna sangat berpengaruh dalam menentukan sebuah warna dalam pemakaian ke dalam produk desain, oleh karenanya penguasan warna merupakan syarat penting untuk desainer pemula. Meski demikian, arti warna bisa bergantung juga dengan bidang tertentu, budaya, agama, dan adat setempat. Warna kuning bisa berasosiasi dengan partai politik tertentu kalau dalam politik; sementara kalau dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, bendera kuning yang dipasang di rumah seseorang, itu pertanda tengah terjadi peristiwa berkabung. Sementara bank syariah hampir pasti selalu dihiasi dengan warna hijau yang berasosiasi dengan agama tertentu.

Select pen tool and use the original logo to put curves on the red curve that we see in the logo. Note the path settings.

So here is our path here. We can turn the logo OFF now and drag the path to our document.

Now fix this path, make it a little bit wave like. We got to stroke the path now. Choose the brush first. I recommend you to set the brush with the exact options and size I did.

Stage 2 - Highlights:
First i will make a round selection.

Then using the lasso tool and holding shift I will add another selection.

Create a new layer and overlay this selection (on a new layer) with this very gradient.

Use mask if you like to blend the lower edge.

Make a copy of the reflection, make it a little smaller and paste.

Stage3 - Shadows.
We got to make these shadows right here.

Make a selection sing the lasso tool. Transform and warp the selection a little bit.

Create a new layer and fill the selection with this gradient.

Then, do the rest of the areas.

For the final lower curve we will use pen tool to create a perfect curve.

Duplicate the curve.

Drop a highlight- this is the same highlight we used back there.

Drop shadow on the whole red thing there.

Transform the lower curve to make it a little bit bigger. I've created a copy of the initial curve and just transformed it a little.

We will continue to make EURO 2008 logo, the ball of the logo

This logo isn't exactly like on the original image, needs some additional manipulations. Transform some So we've made a curve of the logo and now the final element - the ball itself.

Let's analyze a bit the original logo of EURO championship. The logo BALL consists of 2 main shape types - type A and type B.

Let's keep that in mind.
Now use shape tool and create a new round a little bit egg like shape.

Create the spot like shapes then

Use the initial shape to copy and transform them.

When all the shapes are on their places merge them and create a copy if these shapes layer.

Now this white background contours will be made by using a tablet, simply draw them.
Drop the inner shadow on the Circle (the 1st shape)

Final stage, we will create shadows and highlights.
Create a shape with shape tool.

Warp the shape (transformation).

Use only 1 style and note the gradient blending mode - Hard Light.

The highlight has the same shape structure, only a little bit smaller size and Color.
Next select the circle (the 1st shape), create a new layer and overly the are with Black to transparency layer ( opacity about 70%).

Change

the ball color (the color of the 1st shape)

Fix all the mistakes done when painting (if you have no, then it's ok).

Merge the layers and there we have it.

n this tutorial, I will show you the steps I took to create this cool, ancient-style typography using dry soil texture and floral brushset in Photoshop. I will also share with you the technique I learnt for creating some really cool light strips for your image.

Along the way, we will be using a lot of layer blending technqiues, musking, image adjustment tools and adjustment layers, plus the gradient tool and blur tool. This is an intermediate tutorial so beginners may find it a bit tricky. Well, never hurt to have a try!

Let’s get started!
To complete this tutorial, you will need the following stocks:
Font
Dry Soil
Floral Brushes
Cloud Brushes

Step 1

Create a new document sized 1000 * 800 px with white background. Create a new layer called “radial gradient” and grab the Gradient Tool (G) and select the radial gradient fill option, fill this layer as shown below:

Step 2

On top of the “Radial Gradient” layer, use the font we have just downloaded, type some text onto it. ( I only typed a letter “A” however you may type whatever text you want)

Apply the following layer blending option to this layer:

Drop Shadow

Inner Glow

Bevel and Emboss

Color Overlay

Gradient Overlay

And you will have the following effect:

Step 3

Load the selection of the text layer by holding down the Ctrl key and left-click the layer thumbnail image on the layer palette:

Hit Ctrl + Alt + R and bring up the Refine Edge Tool, apply the following settings:

Load the “Dry Soil” texture into Photoshop and drag the selection of the text layer (To do this, select the Rectangular Marquee Tool, move your mouse over the selection, left-click and hold to drag):

Copy and paste the selection back to our document, you will have the following effect:

Name this newly-created layer as “dry soil texture” and change its blending mode to “Hard Light” and you will have the following effect:

Step 4

On top of the “dry soil texture” layer, add the following adjustment layers with the respective settings (make sure you tick the “use previous layer as clipping mask” option for all adjustment layers)

Levels

Color Balance

Bright and Contrast

Black and white

And you will have the following effect:

Now I would like to show you an interesting method to add light stripes to the text. Create a new layer on top of all previous layers, grab the rectangular marquee tool to draw a selection as below:

Then grab a big soft brush with white colour (I used 800px) and do a few clicks in the following postition, while maintaining the selection:

Then resize, rotate the selection until it reaches the effect as shown below:

Name this layer as “light strips” and duplicate it a couple of times, move the duplicated layers as shown below:

When you’re happy with the position, merge all those light strips layers and use the Eraser Tool with a soft round brush to erase the bit where covers the text:

Step 5

To add some more decoration to the text, we can use the two brushsets we downloaded and simply do some painting :)

Create a new layer just above the “Radial Light” layer, use the Cloud Brushes to paint some clouds on the bottom part of the canvas:

Create another layer on top of the cloud layer, use the Floral Brushes to add some nice floral swirls around the text:

To add some final touches, add two more adjustment layers on top of all other layers: (Don’t tick “use previous layer as clipping mask” this time)

Benefits

This is pure CSS trick, no Javascript or Flash. It works on most browsers including IE6 (PNG hack required).
It is perfect for designing headings. You don’t have to render each heading with Photoshop. This will save you time and bandwidth.
You can use on any web fonts and the font size remains scalable.

How does this work?

The trick is very simple. Basically we are just adding a 1px gradient PNG (with alpha transparency) over the text.

Limitations and more…

This trick is only suitable for solid background color elements. Your gradient color (PNG image) must be the same color as your background color.
IE PNG hack is required if you want it to work on IE 6.
If your gradient image is taller than the heading, the text will not be selectable

Date Display Technique with Sprites

The typeface and the year being vertical should tip you off right away that images are being used to accomplish this. But also note that the date information is presented as text, as it should be, in the markup:

Sprites at Their Best

Hopefully it’s fairly obvious that each date doesn’t have it’s own unique graphic. The dates are pieced together from a single graphic (css sprites!), where different smaller parts of the graphic are shown in the three different regions: day, month, and year. Perhaps you’ll recognize this from a similar technique Joost de Valk posted about nearly a year ago.

The CSS

The CSS is where the sprite action really happens. With those special class names that we have set up in the HTML, we can set which portions of the image to use.

First, we set relative positioning on the parent. Then we absolutely position each of the three regions within. We set all three of them to use the same background image (our sprite), set their respective widths and heights, and kick the text off the page.

Then, we set each of the months (12 possibilities), days (31 possibilities), and years (goes 10 years out) with the specific background positioning needed to show the specific region we need.

Text Rotation with CSS

Once again, after reading somebody else's article, I felt inspired to put together an alternative example. In this case: Text Rotation.

Within the article I linked to, the example uses an image sprite and a sprinkle of CSS to get things positioned right. Well, maybe not so much a sprinkle. It's like the top fell off the pepper shaker and you've suddenly got a large pile of pepper on your food. It makes me want to sneeze.

Thankfully, many of the popular browsers of today support the ability to rotate HTML elements. Even better? We can make it work in Internet Explorer (back to version 5.5 even). How you might ask? Okay, let's look at the HTML.

Nice and clean without too many extras. I conscientiously chose the date order I did to avoid having to use a comma. Otherwise, an extra span would be required to remove the comma from our final design.

The Magical CSS

For Webkit and Firefox (as of 3.5), you can take advantage of the proposed transform property to handle the rotation. Each browser requires its property prefix for now.

-webkit-transform: rotate(-90deg);
-moz-transform: rotate(-90deg);

In order to perform a transformation, the element has to be set to display:block. In this case, just add the declaration to the span that you want to rotate.

When it comes to effects in Internet Explorer, there is a surprising amount of power (and untapped at that, I'd say) in using filters. Although misleading, there is a filter called BasicImage that offers up the ability to rotate any element that has layout.

filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(rotation=3);

The rotation property of the BasicImage filter can accept one of four values: 0, 1, 2, or 3 which will rotate the element 0, 90, 180 or 270 degress respectively.

The BasicImage filter has other properties that can be set such as mirroring, masking, greyscale and others. Alternatively, you can take advantage of the Matrix filter but the coordinates still don't make any sense to me.

In action

What does this look like in action? Take a look at this page in Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer and you should see something that looks like the following image. Probably the biggest downfall is the lack of consistency in text rendering. Internet Explorer will drop ClearType on any text that has a filter applied to it. You can also see the spacing between the day and the year is different between Safari and Firefox. The differences in text rendering make it more difficult to create "pixel perfect" layout.

Here's hoping the article has offered up a little inspiration and shown that even IE has a few tricks up its sleeve, allowing us to pull off some layout fun.

Simple Photoshop Jelly Effect Text Tutorial

This is a very very simple Photoshop Text Tutorial to show you how to make jelly sort of effect in text elements. Only thing you need for this tutorial is photoshop, because all the effects are made by blending options. This is my first Graphics Tutorial so please critique and suggestions are always welcome . ok Lets start!!

Take a new Document of 600 x 600 px. Double click on the background layer (default layer) to unlock it.

Now right click on the layer and click Blending Options. In Blending Options Go to Gradient Overlay.
Set the Blend Mode to Normal
Opacity to 100%
Style to Radial, check the both check boxes Reverse and Align with Layer.
Keep the Angle at 90
Set the Scale to 150%
Click on the Gradient Color Seclctor and set one color to Black #000000 and the other to Green #155e0d.
Now Move the radial Circle in the middle of the document by dragging it.

Take the text tool from Left Tool box pane and write any word u like with any font you prefer. In my Tutorial’s Case i have used the font Kristen ITC.

3D: A Whole New Dimension In Creating Photoshop Brushes

I wanted to create a large number of new Photoshop brushes but finding the right image and having to cut, crop, and crunch the pictures became painful and boring. Thinking a bit outside the box led me to a whole new dimension in brush making. Why not use 3D models to quickly create Photoshop brushes ?!?!

Step 1: Search for your (3D) brush image

An easy way to search for 3D models is to use the 3DVIA for Adobe® Photoshop® plug-in. You can download it free from http://www.3dvia.com/software/3dvia-labs/photoshop-3d-plugin search 3DVIA_CS3.msi, search3DVIA_CS4.msi, search 3DVIA_CS4_64bi

t.msi. With the plug-in installed, use the Photoshop command File->Import->Search 3DVIA and login to 3DVIA with your free user account.

Step 2: Import 3D model

Let’s create some brushes using a plant. After the 3DVIA dialog appears, type ‘plant’ in the Model Search box and click Search. Once a list of 3D models appears, find the model named Fern and click on Import. In a few seconds, the plant should appear in Photoshop as a new image.

Step 3: Create the brush

To create the brush in Photoshop, use the menu Edit->Define Brush (or Define Brush Preset.. in CS3). Name your new brush. When you bring up the preset brushes window using Windows->Brushes or F5, you will see your new custom fern brush.

Step 4: Use your new brush

Now let’s use our new brush. Create a new image and use the gradient fill on the background layer. Create a new layer (Layer->New->Layer) so we can paint with our new brush.

To give a bit more interest to the fern brush, let’s change a few of the brush properties. Open the brushes panel if you do not have it open Window->Brushes or F5. First off, set the foreground to a forest green and background color to black. In the Brush panel, click on Shape Dynamics and play with the sliders. I uses Size Jitter = 10%, Minimum Diameter = 1%, Angle Jitter = 10%, Roundness Jitter = 0%. Also click on Color Dynamics and try some different settings. I set the Foreground/Background Jitter to 100% and all other 0%.

With the Paintbrush tool selected, begin to click in you image and begin
painting.

Step 5: Create another brush by rotating the plant

To create another brush with a different look, make the fern image active and use the 3D tools to rotate the plant on the screen. In Photoshop CS3, you must first use the command Layer->3D layers-> Transform 3D Model. Once again, create a new brush as you did before in Step 3.

Step 6: Create a few more brushes

Continue creating new brushes with the Fern model or import any other model available on 3dvia.com. Once you have a few custom brushes, play with the Shape Dynamics, Color Dynamics, Scattering, or any of the other settings to create additional unique brushes.

Step 7: Add some creative touches

Add some text and a bit of scratches with a filter and you’re done.
Creating a custom brush with a 3D model is real easy with access to enough 3D models.

Akan muncul tanda panah. Arahkan pada background dan klik kiri. Nah begitu. Apa? ilang? CTRL+ Z aja untuk mengulangi.

Lalu setelah persegi kecil itu masuk ke dalam kontainer background, sekarang saatnya memasukkan vector bayi ke dalam kontainer juga.

NB: persegi kecil yang saya masukkan ke dalam kontainer tadi adalah semata-mata untuk pancingan. Soalnya vector bayi itu terlalu banyak objeknya (sampai ratusan objek!), jadi nggak bisa dimasukkan ke dalam kontainer.

Nah, klik pada vector bayi dan cut, atau tekan CTRL+X.
Lalu klik kanan pada background persegi, dan pilih edit contents

Setelah masuk ke dalam kontainer, sampeyan tekan CTRL+V atau paste. Vector bayi sekarang sudah masuk ke dalam kontainer.

Lalu tatalah letaknya sedemikian rupa sesuai keinginan. Akhiri dengan meng-klik, Finish Editing Object

KESEPULUH

Nah, sekarang sampeyan tinggal mewarnai background sesuka anda, bisa main gradasi, atau apa aja deh. Khan background itu nggak penting, yang penting tetep vectorannya dong.

Lalu kalau sudah selesai, tinggal klik export di property bar di atas sono.

Akan muncul kotak dialog baru, isi nama terserah anda. Pilih pada File of type: JPEG Bitmaps.

Kalau sudah, Klik export. Akan muncul kotak dialog baru.

Ikuti saja seperti contoh di atas.

Weight: 25 cm,
Height: 20 cm;
Resolution: 300 dpi, yang ini hukumnya fardlu ‘ain! Soalnya untuk kualitas cetak, minimum resolusi adalah 300 dpi

Klik OK.

Akan muncul kotak dialog baru lagi. Kotak dialog ini menampilkan screenshot gambar hasil export nanti. Pilih pada option optimize, dan optional (4:4:4).

Kalau mau zoom out, klik kanan berkali-kali di layar screen shoot (yang ada dua itu lo, kiri dan kanan. Yang kiri itu sebelum, yang kanan itu sesudah) di kotak dialog tersebut.

Selesai bro.
Mau lihat ukuran file hasil export ke JPG tadi??
noooh…

Bandingkan dengan ukuran file vector masternya..

…dan hal itu menurut saya MASUK AKAL!

Makanya, itulah hebatnya vector, bisa memerkecil ukuran ratusan kali, bahkan ribuan kali bahkan lebih. Lawong vector itu yang diukur khan bukan besar kecilnya objek, melainkan banyak sedikitnya objek dan node..

Memasukkan foto kedalam teks

Tutorial efek tulisan dengan Photoshop ini cukup mudah. Mungkin malah sudah banyak yang tahu. Tutorial ini memang sengaja saya susulkan untuk di publikasikan. Karena teknik ini akan digunakan juga pada tutorial yang mendatang.

Pada tutorial ini kita akan belajar cara memasukkan sebuah foto / gambar kedalam tulisan ataupun obyek lain.

Langkah 1
Bukalah sebuah file foto / gambar, atau buatlah sebuah file baru. Ukuran file bisa disesuaikan dengan keinginan Anda.

Tujuan langkah ini adalah agar kita mempunyai sebuah file yang digunakan untuk mengetik.
Langkah 2

Pada file tersebut (langkah ke-1), buatlah sebuah tulisan dengan menggunakan type tools. Usahakan untuk memilih jenis huruf yang tebal. Misalnya Arial Black, Impact.

Langkah 3

Bukalah file foto / gambar yang akan dimasukkan ke dalam tulisan. Jika file tersebut sudah dibuka, geserlah file tersebut kedalam file tulisan dengan menggunakan Move tool. Lebih lanjut, tentang Move tool, bisa dibaca di sini.

Langkah 4
Pastikan urutan layer seperti gambar berikut ini:

Layer foto diatas sendiri, kemudian layer tulisan dibawahnya.
Jika posisi layer sudah benar, pastikan layer yang aktif adalah layer foto.
Sekarang:

Tekan tombol Ctrl + Alt + G, pada Photoshop 7, atau
Pilih menu Layer > Create Clipping Mask (Ctrl + G), pada Photoshop CS, atau
Pilih menu Layer > Create Clipping Mask (Ctrl + Alt + G), pada Photoshop CS3.

Foto sudah masuk kedalam tulisan. Jika perlu, bisa Anda tambahkan Layer style misalnya Bevel and Emboss atau Drop Shadow.

Pembuatan Efek Tulisan Godzilla

Langkah 1

Buatlah sebuah file baru dengan Photoshop. Ukuran file disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan Anda. Pada contoh tutorial ini, kugunakan sebuah file berukuran 450 x 300 pixel; 72 dpi.

Langkah 2

Buatlah agar file baru ini berwarna hitam. Caranya dengan menekan huruf D pada keyboard, kemudian menekan Alt + Backspace. Atau dengan memilih menu Edit > Fill, pilih warna Black untuk diterapkan.

Langkah 3

Pilih Type tool pada toolbox Photoshop, kemudian ketiklah tulisan yang akan diberi efek pada file yang hitam tadi. Pada gambar contoh tutorial dibawah ini, kubuat jenis hurufnya Arial Black dengan warna putih.

Langkah 4

Pastikan layer tulisan dalam kondisi aktif, berikan efek Emboss pada tulisan ini. caranya dengan memilih Menu Filter > Stylize > Emboss. Saat muncul kotak dialog peringatan, klik OK untuk mengkonfirmasikan perintah rasterize. Aturlah nilai pengaturannya seperti gambar dibawah ini (bukan nilai mutlak, bisa Anda rubah sendiri sesuai selera).

Langkah 5

Pilihlah menu Image > Adjustment > Color Balance. Buatlah agar tulisan tersebut menjadi agak kehijauan.

Langkah 6

Munculkan seleksi pada layer tulisan. Cara yang termudah untuk memunculkan seleksinya adalah dengan melakukan Ctrl + klik pada tumbnail layernya.

Langkah 7

Lebarkan area seleksi. Lakukan ini dengan cara memilih menu Select > Modify > Expand. Isikan nilai secukupnya. Pada gambar ilustrasi tutorial dibawah ini kuberi angka 10.

Akan didapatkan hasil seleksinya seperti dibawah ini.

Langkah 8

Isikan warna putih pada layer background pada area yang berada dalam seleksi. Pastikan layer background dalam kondisi aktif dulu.

Kemudian tekan D pada keyboard, kemudian tekan Ctrl + Backspace.

Setelah muncul warna putih pada area seleksi tersebut, hilangkan seleksinya. Caranya dengan memilih menu Select > Deselect. Hasilnya seperti gambar dibawah ini.

Langkah 9

Berikan efek kabur pada layer background. Cara untuk memberikan efek ini adalah dengan memilih menu Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Aturlah nilai radiusnya hingga didapat gambar seperti dibawah ini (bisa berubah-ubah, sesuai dengan ukuran tulisan anda).

Langkah 10

Sekarang buatlah agar warna background-nya tadi berwarna kuning kehijauan. Caranya dengan memilih menu Image > Adjustment > Color Balance. Geserlah slider pengaturannya kearah Green dan Yellow. Lakukan ini pada setiap range warna Shadow, Midtone, dan Highlight. Nilai pengaturannya terserah keinginan Anda.

Langkah 11

Buatlah agar background menjadi agak berlekuk. Caranya dengan memilih menu Filter > Distort > Wave. Buatlah pengaturannya seperti gambar dibawah ini. Untuk mencari secara acak bentuk distorsi yang lain, kliklah tombol Randomize.

Membuat efek tulisan air

Langkah 1

Buatlah sebuah file baru, atau buka file yang sudah ada (yang akan Anda beri efek teks ini). Pada contoh kali ini, saya menggunakan sebuah gambar daun pisang, yang saya dapat dari kumpulan gambar wallpaper.

Langkah 2
Buatlah sebuah layer baru, dengan cara mengeklik icon Create New Layer di palet layer.

Isi layer yang baru tadi dengan warna putih.
Langkah 3

Buatlah sebuah tulisan yang berwarna hitam. Ukuran dan jenis huruf bisa disesuaikan sendiri dengan kebutuhan Anda. Pada tutorial ini, saya menggunakan jenis huruf / font Tempus Sans ITC. Gunakan font sesuai selera Anda, namun mungkin akan lebih bagus jika jenis huruf yang digunakan bukan huruf-huruf yang formal.

Langkah 4

Gabungkanlah layer tulisan dengan layer 1 (layer yang berwarna putih tadi) dengan cara mengaktifkan layer tulisan kemudian memilih menu Layer > Merge Down. Yang layer background (yang isinya gambar yang dbuka tadi, dalam tutorial ini adalah gambar daun pisang tadi) jangan ikut digabung.

Langkah 5

Pada layer yang sudah digabung tadi, berikanlah efek Crystalize. Lakukan ini dengan cara memilih menu Filter > Pixelate > Crystallize. Masih ingat dengan efek foto robek? Ya, hampir mirip dengan langkah yang ada pada tutorial tersebut. Pada pengaturan ukuran Cell size, aturlah secukupnya hingga gambar nya seperti dibawah ini. Pada tutorial Photoshop ini, saya beri pengaturan sebanyak 6.

Tujuan langkah ini adalah agar pinggiran dari tulisan menjadi tidak rata secara agak berlebihan, hingga ada bagian dari tulisan yang mengecil bahkan terpotong.
Langkah 6
Langkah berikutnya adalah membuat gambar tersebut agak kabur, tujuannya untuk membuat tepian yang tidak rata tersebut menjadi agak buram dan kabur. Lakukan ini dengan cara memilih menu Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Pada tutorial ini, saya isikan 3,5 pixel pada nilai pengaturan Radius.

Langkah 7
Sekarang pilihlah menu Image > Adjustment > Levels. Buatlah agar gambar yang sudah dikaburkan tadi semakin kontras. Buatlah seperti gambar dibawah ini. Dekatkan titik segitiga Shadow dengan Highlight.

Langkah 8
Aktifkan palet channel (palet ini bisa diklik langsung namanya di dekat palet Layer, atau dengan memilih menu Window > Channel). Pada palet ini, klik icon Load Channel as Selection.

Langkah 9
Kembali lagi pada palet layer (Window > Layer). Tekanlah tombol Delete pada keyboard untuk menghapus warna putih pada layer yang sudah berisi tulisan tadi. Yang terhapus hanyalah bagian putihya saja, sesuai dengan bentuk seleksi pada Langkah ke-8 tadi.

Setelah ini, hilangkan seleksinya dengan memilih menu Select > Deselect.
Langkah 10
Atur bentuk tulisan ini, agar lebih sesuai dengan kondisi gambar background. Pada tutorial ini, saya mengubah ukurannya dengan Edit > Free Transfrom, dan menggunakan fasilitas Warp mode.

Langkah 11

Update:
Jika Anda hanya bisa mengikuti tutorial ini hingga langkah ke-10, mohon untuk membaca keseluruhan tutorial ini dengan lebih teliti lagi sejak paragraf pertama.

Sekarang terapkan Style tetesan air yang sudah kita punyai. Jika ingin menambah beberapa bentuk tetesan lagi, pilihlah Brush tool, kemudian sapukan beberapa lingkaran kecil pada layer tulisan ini. Secara otomatis, style tetesan air akan langsung ikut diterapkan juga.

Undangan Pernikahan Simple Black Beauty

Beberapa hari ini saya sering sekali mendapat pesanan desain, terutama desain undangan pernikahan. Jangan kuatir…. Free tentunya, kebanyakan mereka menginginkan desain yang simple tetapi terkesan mahal/ elegan. Maka saya putuskan untuk mengadopsi konsep simple black beauty yaitu warna dasar dominan hitam pekat dan sedikit gampar serta tulisan dan gambar yang sederhana.

Tentunya dengan desain yang sedemikian Andapun tidak kesulitan dalam membuatnya, karena kita tidak dituntut bisa ini dan itu, kita hanya perlu dasar-dasar corelDraw dan jadilah desain seperti disamping.

Atau Anda benar-benar kesulitan membuat desain seperti diatas ? Jangan khawatir, disini saya sertakan file mentah / masih bisa diedit di corel versi 13 ke atas.

Yang penting adalah informasi yang jelas tentang kapan acara dan dimana tempat acara pernikahan / resepsi / tasyakuran tersebut.
